It was in 1535 that Jacques Cartier discovered Quebec on behalf of the King of France. Five years later he decided to settle there thinking of building a NEW WORLD because of his discoveries which he wrongly believed to be diamonds and gold. It will be necessary to wait 60 years later, with the arrival of Samuel de Champlain, for the founding of Quebec in 1608 and French colonization.
Today Quebec is one of the oldest cities in North America.
